Changes to exams

This course was the first time that the new RCF Optical Marking system was used, which is the new RSGB/RCF system for ensuring fair and accurate marking of all three amateur radio licence levels. Candidates no longer receive ‘pass certificates’ on the day – these are sent out by the RSGB – fortunately, local clubs are still able to mark papers locally top give candidates a likely score. The pass mark for Foundation is now 19 out of 26, and is a mix of multiple-choice questions and several assessed practical sessions.

The August 2013 was the second time that Foundation training material specially prepared by the Essex Ham team was used. Slide-sets, mock papers, handouts and revision material have been designed to help students understand the Foundation syllabus and prepare for the practicals and exams.
