* Technically Romford is in a London borough, and we’ve been asked to remove details of this local repeater. Members of Essex Ham have voted to keep the details of the repeater on this page, as it’s on the London/Essex border, and this is useful information. Other repeaters on the Essex/London border are also included
So why do you pay council tax to a London Borough and the Greater London Authority but not Essex County Council?
Why are you able to vote in the London Mayoral elections but not the Essex Crime Commissioner elections?
Reminds me of some of the debates we have on Old English forums. We have Brummies claiming Essex belongs to the Mercians and the Ēast Seaxna Rīce heptarchy folk claiming most of the lower black country from Mercia lol.
Let’s just have a list of repeaters for the Ēast Seaxna Rīce heptarchy and be done with it.
Gosh, we could even subjugate those pesky Romfordian ceorls by reminding them we owned their butts since the 6th century lol
Following a debate on the Monday Night Net on 8th February, the feeling from members is that the information about the Romford repeater is of interest to people in Essex, and not just in London, and due to the proximity, members have asked for this to be restored.
We are not happy about this but understand your position. We appreciate your efforts including the footnote.
Our aim is to help cut geographic confusion. It may seem trival but it can get very serious when people contact the wrong authority about an urgent matter.
You’ve missed the point entirely. Correct geography is always important.
We’ve helped alot of people over the years. We’ll continue our valueable work.
The Football team i support is Romford fc and they are members of the Essex football Association. I think the trouble is no one in this area voted to be part of London so a lot of people still consider like myself to be part of Essex not London.
I am a licensed radio amateur, call sign, G4PZX and I am 92 years young. For years I have enjoyed amateur Radio, especially Echolink, which got me round the world on 2metres,mthrough a repeater station in Claiton, unfortunately now closed down. As Inno longer have HF equipment I am somewhat curtailed in my hobby.I live just outside Colchester and I am anxious to find another echolink frequency to use, can anyone help.

Can you not take your pick? Similarly Middlesex has to coexist with a number of modern “boundaries”, you can send post addressed to either the Middlesex address or a more modern one, it all gets delivered as the postcode narrows things down for accuracy.
I was born in an RM postcode and lived in one for many years, that to me is Essex and it stretches up to the River Lea which is its boundary in the west. However, if you want to call it the LBoHavering then be my guest, my birth cert says otherwise and we were there first! 100 years on from 1965 and no-one will know what you are talking about. May be then they will be forced to change the Duke of Essex pubs as well, but it won’t sound as good.
Enjoy the 100 year transition – in the meantime, I am proud of being from Essex – even though I now live in GB3IK country hi hi.
So according to you, Stratford’s in Essex, which means the 2012 Olympics were in Essex not London. Yeah, i think I’ll stick to the modern boundaries as you call them, just as you old timers all do when it comes to getting your Freedom Pass – you’re all Londoners then!
I was born in Ilford Essex more precisely Hainault ,its housing estate is in Chigwell Essex but known as the Hainault estate make what you will out of that
Middlesex was abolished in 1965… So no, Heathrow ain’t in Middlesex. It’s in London.
As for London Gatwick, it means it serves London not that it’s in London. The London Underground goes to Epping, but Epping is in Essex not London.
It’s simple, if a place is in a London Borough then it’s in London.

Romford hasn’t moved location but the London/Essex boundary has. The boundary was moved by Act of Parliament in 1965. Romford ceased to be a part of Essex at that time. Since then Romford has been a part of London.

Romford is not in Essex.
Romford is in London.
In the London Borough of Havering in east London.
Since 1965.
I was born in Romford Essex. Essex is part of my address . All letters addressed to me end with – Romford Essex?
Not according to the Royal Mail website.
Check your driving licence. It won’t have Romford, Essex on it.
It’s Essex, I live there
So why do you pay council tax to a London Borough and the Greater London Authority but not Essex County Council?
Why are you able to vote in the London Mayoral elections but not the Essex Crime Commissioner elections?
As requested, we have removed the reference to the Romford repeater, making it that little bit harder for locals to find some useful information.
Trust that means with your approval?
Reminds me of some of the debates we have on Old English forums. We have Brummies claiming Essex belongs to the Mercians and the Ēast Seaxna Rīce heptarchy folk claiming most of the lower black country from Mercia lol.

When it comes to repeaters the authority on repeaters Ofcom so they dont care for if it is Essex or London.

Hi Alex long time no heard any thing from you this is Brian G4ZEK .
So I guess you will/may not want to know/advise when MB7PH is made live on 23cm from Romford, Essex in the LBOHavering then?!
No such place as Romford, Essex. As you alloued to, Romford is in the London Borough of Havering. As such, it can’t possibly be in Essex.
Not worth arguing about, what is more important is the possible loss of 2m and 23 cms.

The one I Find funny is London Gatwick don t have a London postcode and London Heathrow is in Middlesex !!! and is covered by 5 TW postcodes

Don’t need to look on YouTube, I already know the facts. Romford’s clearly in London and clearly not in Essex.
This page needs updating at GB7KH Is no longer but you now have GB7HH in Romford ESSEX.
Thanks Gareth. Now updated!
No such place as Romford Essex
Who cares which part of the World Romford is in. All I know is that I can get there if I want to. So what is the point in arguing if it’s in London or Essex. It’s still in the same place as it always was.
@Old Contemptible, you need to resurch the difronce between postal areas and local authority’s as the two are very difront and there are cross overs.
Postal areas are for delivering post whereas local authorities are for administering services etc. Romford comes under the Romford postal town & under the London Borough of Havering. Romford is not in Essex postally or geographically. Geographically Romford is in the London Region, Greater London Lieutenancy, & Havering London Borough; Essex doesn’t come into it.
I hate myself now because I read these comments to the end thinking that there was something relevant to radio repeaters. I think you should list any repeater within geographical range of Essex, maybe consider listing all UK digital nodes too… :)
do radio waves obey boundary rules, like London, Essex, and so on? Surely boundaries are man-made and can change like the wind according to political whim. Radio waves don’t care about which authority it is, who “owns” the area, or anything else. It is very sad that people have to make a drama out of something that is not actually relevant to successful radio communications. Boundaries are a matter of perspective. To most people they should not matter in this instance and with respect to this particular topic. However they do something to the psyche of the person when they become all important and all encompassing. Good luck with that.
