The Southend & District Amateur Radio Society is one of the many amateur radio clubs in Essex. These days, SADARS is a small group that meets socially. The club is not actively involved in running club nights, training courses, or a schedule of annual field events.
In the 1990s, the club met at the Rocheway Centre in Rochford, and also met regularly at the Alexandra Yacht Club, Southend Seafront.
As of 2014, the small group of members meets at the EKCO Social Club every Tuesday evening. Guests are welcome, but have to be signed in and pay a small fee for entrance to the social club.
SADARS does not run a website at this time.

Have come back to listening to AM nets on top band after many years. But can’t find any. Where have they gone? The 160 band used to be full of them. I used to run one myself in the 1970’s. Bill G4CIA.
AMP – AM preservation society Sundays 1908 AM from about 3 I think. Also unofficial one most other days.
Paul. Thanks for info on the AMPS net. It was originally started by myself and G2CMW here in North East Essex in 1973. The net grew and grew and some stations from Kent were difficult copy. So control was passed to G4GVO in mid Essex who was more central. Little bit of history. 73. Bill.G4CIA
I use to call in on Amps net in the 1980s when Tony G4IOP ran the net, use to get many on it. Trouble is now the noise level has increased so much now for many hams on 160m. 73s G4FQF
Is there anyone who can repair a 1965 Braun T1000 multi band transistor radio.
Someone has got it working but I’m not happy with his work.

I was a member of the Southend club over 40 years ago. Then it used to meet in Rayleigh, where I now live.
I remember Dave Pritchard, G4GVO very well. he lived in Leigh and was a school teacher. Nice guy.
Though not licensed then, I did have a rig in the car, pre empting getting my licence in 1979 (which I failed). Whilst in the club, someone was giving a talk and meanwhile, outside my car was being broken with a brick thrown through a window and my rig was stolen. It turned out to be a club member who stole it. With the help of another amateur, Robin, G4DVJ, I managed to get the rig back and the police were involved.

The SDRS is still just about going. We celebrated the club’s 100th Anniversary in 2020.
You’ll be glad to hear that Robin G4DVJ is still with us, but no longer a member of the club.
