Galleywood Gathering 18 Feb 2018

Thanks to those who attended our third “Galleywood Gathering” of the year, on Sunday the 18th of February 2018. This event followed hot on the heels of our Gathering on 11th February.

The previous week’s Galleywood Gathering was a little chilly, and not as much radio took place as a result. With WX a little better this week, there was an opportunity this time around for a more active afternoon of radio.

This time around, three stations were active on HF (Charlie M0PZT, Peter G0DZB and Kristian M0SSK), mostly on 40m, 20m and 10m.

During the afternoon, Pete M0PSX heard G8BBC calling on GB3DA, and made contact for the first time with the BBC’s station. Jon, from the roof of New Broadcasting House had a planned sked with Bletchley Park, but with poor propagation, couldn’t make it, so tried a few calls on local repeaters, including GB3DA in Danbury.

Other highlights included some sign-twirling (vid to follow…), Nick M0NFE and Majbritt M6YAX arriving and departing safely in their orange baby and some folk visiting for the first time (including newly-licensed Jon M6MYZ). We were also joined by someone who’s been inactive for a while, lives around the corner, and may be inspired to get back into the hobby now that he’s retired.

After some decent hours of radio, we sought sanctuary in the pub, for a few drinks and a natter – a nice way to wrap up another of our impromptu get-togethers.

Thanks to all who turned up, either for the radio or for the social, and thanks to Charlie M0PZT for suggesting this event. We’re already considering the same again in mid-March, so keep an eye out for updates, here on the Essex Ham website.
