What’s Meshcore?
Meshtastic was the first attempt at a free wireless network. Many were disappointed. Meshcore picks up the pieces and is a rapidly-growing network. If you have Meshtastic, re-flash it Meshcore. If not, you can get started with a £20 Heltek 3 board.
Meshcore is a low-powered subscription-free network, with hundreds of repeaters in the UK and growing. Set up a cheap repeater and become part of this growing free network.

Where’s the catch? It’s not amateur radio (but shares a lot of the same principles), and you have to be in range of another connected repeater to be part of the network.
Once connected, you can ping a message to a specific user, group or a public CQ, and get chatting. Surprisingly addictive!
Thinking of trying Meshcore? A good start is the Heltek v3 with case, battery and antenna. An ideal combination is a twin pack – one for use as a fixed repeater, and one “companion” to connect to your mobile via Bluetooth.
