Smart meters vs HF (4 replies)

Hi, I have been told by my electricity supplier that I must have a smart meter fitted in the near future, however I seem to remember some discussion as to these meters affecting HF comms in the home environment.

Does anyone have any experience of any issues with smart meters versus ham radio?

Many thanks in advance.

Mike,
Just tell them no. HF is the least of your worries. Just Google "smart meter scandal" and for your rights have a look here:

If they ever did find a way to force me to have one I may just decide to install an experimental Faraday Cage around my house! :-)

Paul, thanks for the reply.
I have studied the website you suggested and for now I will decline the smart meter.
It would still be interesting to find out if anyone has had any interference issues.

Hi Mike,

Smart meters got lots of discussion on the net this evening. No reports of any RF interference from three locals locally with smart meters, but no-one had a positive word to say about them, and Nick M0NIB's quote was that they offer no benefit to consumers, just to the utility companies. Advice seemed to be "just say no".
