FT8 Signal Reports (1 reply and 1 comment)
Hi Rodney,
The report will normally be a 2 digit number, positive or negative. It's a measurement of dB that's auto-generated by the software. -26dB is the noise floor, so if you get a report of -26, that's bearly decodable, but a + number would be very loud & clear.
Hope that helps,
Pete
Many Thanks,nice simple explanation

Hello, after years of saying I would never work FT8 I have finally taken the plunge and having a play. On average I run about 30 watts only on this mode and have had some success on 70cms along with the other bands. Much to my surprise my computer worked J68HZ St Lucia on 40 mtrs around 8 am today with just 35 watts and a simple vertical.
Only thing I dont really understand is how the signal reporting works. For example what is the equivalent in comparison to RST. I note that most stations exchange minus figures in reports. Without getting complicated what does this all mean, is there a scale , say a minus 12 report is the same as a 529 or similar.
Would be interesting to know so I can judge how well my signals are getting out, but upon saying that have been amazed at who is hearing me via PSK Reporter.
Any comments or feedback
Many Thanks
