Hi Dave,

Normally, practicals and exams are done with the help of a local amateur radio club. Have you contacted your nearby amateur radio clubs(s) yet, to see if they can help?

Assuming you're in Essex, there are 7 clubs who offer training course, practical sessions and exams - we have a list of clubs offering training here:

https://www.essexham.co.uk/essex-training

If you're outside Essex, you can find nearby clubs using the following link:

https://thersgb.org/services/clubfinder/

Hopefully your nearest training club can assist. Get in touch with the training manager of your nearest clubs, and they should be able to help, or point you in the right direction.

Hi Dave,

We are an Internet-based group, and we currently don’t run Foundation practical or exam sessions. There are 7 clubs across the county in Essex with dedicated training teams offering practicals & exams, and our online course is there to support home learners such as yourself.

We can help by putting you in touch with local clubs who may be able to help you, and of course, we help with free online training and video guides to prepare you for the exam and practicals.

Hi Pete, not that I want to go over your head but I saw this and thought I could help in some way. Steve Thomas replied to an email I sent to the RSGB about this item and has come back to me with this reply. ..We frequently work with candidates with disabilities to find suitable exam arrangements. They need to contact the RSGB Exam Department to discuss it.

Hi Terry. Thanks for that. I’ve been discussing options with David by email, and he’s now sorted. He’s training online with us, and doing practicals and exam with his nearest club, CARS.

Well that saves me asking the question, I am also disabled and mainly housebound (can be lured out with a biscuit).

can get out when motivated to do so, but do get some looks concerning my previous posts. yes i may appear fairly mobile, but what is not understood by many is that not all disabilities are visible, and certainly not all mobility related. only if people knew, but that`s the sort of thing you don`t talk about, and if people have to question you about it, then they have a lot to learn. think the point is made! wouldn`t wish what i have on my worst enemy! respect to all and your friends will be known. treat others as you wish to be treated yourself! live life and enjoy it whil it lasts, it`s far to short for many,,, !
