Discreet antenna (1 reply)

Hi,

Please go easy on me  - I am new to the forum and new to amateur radio.  I am looking for some advice from seasoned pro's about antennas. The problem I have is that my wife is extremely reluctant (understatement) about having an antenna on a mast attached to the house so I was wondering what my options are?  I currently use a telescopic fibreglass flagpole which gives reasonable results but it is a bit of a pain having to disassemble it when I am not using it.  I would like something that could remain connected in the garden but discreet enough not to upset the boss.  I have looked at the Chameleon Mpas 2.0 antenna that you can stick in the ground which would be ideal but at around £600 it is out of my price range.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks very much

I would suggest something like a 10m roach/fishing pole. You can get them for about £50 or less on Ebay and quite thin so not an eyesore. You can either wind a wire around it and use it as a vertical or use it to support a long wire.
