I am now to Essex Ham and studying for the Foundation Licence. Can anyone advise whether there is a commercially available small antenna that would fit in a loft and be suitable for transmit and receive on the HF bands. Many thanks to Essex Ham and Pete for the excellent on line course

I don't exactly know what you mean by a loft?

I'm living in an appartement and use quiet successfully mobile whips (from Moonraker) for HF and a small Yagi for VHF/UHF from Wimo Germany on my balcony.... I use QRP on all bands... Worked VP8 Falklands yesterday with 10 watts and mobile whip on 18Mhz.... Some JA and USA stations on 10MHZ with same setup yesterday evening...

You can see some pics on my website:

Hope this helps!

I'm using a discone antenna in the loft...

And use it for 2m/70cm Tx... Good for local only obviously but an option to consider as you can also use it for other things like SDR etc.
