Robin Hood January VHF Award 14, 21 & 28 January

MX0YHA (Aries ARC) and MX0PHX (Phoenix ARC) are running a Robin Hood VHF Award on Sundays in January from Earby, N. Yorkshire SD94 & Charnwood Forest SK41 respectively. Activities will be as portable stations from high ground - even in the worst winter weather.

This activity is a follow-up to the highly successful Robin Hood Special Yuletide Award run by Aries (formerly the YHARG) which made over 300 contacts in four weekends on 2m.

The Robin Hood January VHF Award has already attracted over 110 contacts and has clearly set 2m alight in the Northwest of England.

With Phoenix ARC (MX0PHX) joining the activities the award will now cover a much larger part of Northern England and the Midlands.

Long distance contacts are already proving quite easy, with distances of at least 150km being possible without any troposheric enhancement. So, contacts from North Yorkshire (with MX0YHA situated at 1150ft above sea level) into Southern Scotland, North Wales and even the Home Counties (inc; Essex) are quite feasible with quite modest equipment - and if there are people on the band!

Anyone who is close to a "Robin Hood" location (even a Robin Hood pub!) can become a 'registered activator' and help to kick a bit of life back into 2m  . .  or indeed any band.

In addition to MX0YHA and MX0PHX, other registered activators are aiming to be on the air on 14th and 28th January.

Special downloadable, self-service EeZee Award Certificates are available on the RHA website. More information at http://www.RobinHoodRadio.uk
