M0DVD Deluxe 2 antenna. 80 to 10 meters. (14 replies)
Now increased to 18.5 ft with a 25 ft wire coming from the top of the antenna down to a garden bench.
That looks great. Can you send me a link to the design please? I'm struggling with 80M at the moment. Thanks. Paul,
It works even better now, It was originally a brought antenna with add on's however it has been completely changed now, Measurements are very different now and it has radials, Only the bottom few feet are original now (Just the connector and bottom 3 feet) . I keep putting it up and down due to hassle from the council so it remains a temporary antenna and keep improving parts of it slowly but surely through means of experimentation. Once I have achieved the very best I am going to be selling it as a whole kit.
Not to high in the air so is more neighbour pleasing.
Worked into North America last night on 40 meters on not so favorable conditions with just 40 watts.
Also worked Italy on just 10 watts on 10 meters also yesterday.
Experimenting today by making the antenna into a 5/8 wave for 40 meters, Had to add one coil to keep the size down even if I am not over keen on coils, Now to just add a few more radials and see how she performs, Only time will tell.
As a bonus she tunes on 40 meters without a tuner. Watch this space on updates on your neighbour friendly multi band HF antenna. :)
Further improvements on the antenna today and with conditions being only fair on the band tonight just worked Brazil (PY2JJ) and got a 5/9 +10 report. The little fella is doing great. :D
I'll buy a prototype and test it! I'm not far from you - Little Baddow - and have a bit more space in which to trial it.
Ok you're have to give me a little time as I need to make up a radial plate and I would have to supply it with radials and a coil. I got into Virgin islands, Georgia and Oman last night with good reports and conditions were only fair again, I can't wait until we get some good conditions as I am excited to see how she performs. It works well on 80, 40, 20, 10 but have not tried it on the other bands yet, Tunes up at less then 1.1 on all those bands mentioned with a manual tuner. You would need room for 18 ft in height and 40 ft in length only. You wouldn't need to concrete anything in as it is so light you just knock a small pole straight into the earth it would also come with an earth rod and the earth cable. Currently only has 14 radials but I am adding more and more with surprisingly good results. It way out performs that half size G5RV I had up here at 33 ft, Takes up less space, More discreet and works well on 80 metres. I think a lot of the success is down to the good quality wire that I use, materials are not cheap, Something that I need to work on and a lot of soldering as everything is tinned to keep the conductivity. Hardware is all stainless steel. I want to look into having the main element professionally coated in fibreglass. I really want to offer this as a commercial antenna as I am sick to death of the hassle that I have had with the local council and want to provide other hams with an antenna that does not need a mast and is very low key as I would not wish the stress that I have had on anyone, Amateur radio is not meant to be this stressful, It should be an enjoyable hobby.
What has also driven me is that I have tried a couple of commercial brought antenna's and they were very poorly waterproofed and had hardware that rusted only after a couple of months of winter weather!
In it's experimental stage, Not pretty but it performs!

Not very pretty but worked M3YSB in Devon on just 5 watts with a report of 5/9 + 20db, VP2ETE with report 5/5 and ZS6CCY with a report of 4/7. The antenna is fed with 40 meters of low loss coax and has 6 radials.
