CARS December 2014 Xmas Social

CARS LogoTuesday the 2nd of December 2014 saw the annual Xmas social get-together for the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society (CARS).

The Christmas Club Night took place at the club’s regular meeting place, Chelmsford’s Oaklands Museum, starting from 7:30pm

The evening included a good mix of activities, and was a great opportunity to catch up with club members and visitors. The festivities included:

A 20 question quiz, based on questions “donated” to the CARS Skills Nights throughout the year. John G1UZD was the quizmaster for the evening, with some controversial and tricky questions to get the members thinking… Can you think of five or more situations where it’s OK to talk to someone without an amateur licence who’s calling from within the UK?

The raffle offered an opportunity to pick up a few festive treats, including books, chocolates, and even a monitor screen, which was snapped up by Jim 2E0RMI.

John G8DET ran a competition to guess the contents inside a collection of bags, yielding some interesting guesses and some surprising answers.

John G1UZD showed a short selection of photos taken by Eric G8ADX during his trip to the Poldhu Amateur Radio Club and the Lizard Peninsula.

Highlight of the evening, at least for me, was the appearance of Peter G0DZB – The only Christmas jumper visible, and Peter had to dash off early, as he still has a lot of present-arranging to sort out before Christmas day…

Many thought the music was being played from a CD, but the musical interlude was live. The music, including a few Christmas ditties, was expertly played live on the keyboard by Tony G4YTG.

Thanks to John G8DET for the very popular hot mince pies, and also to Ann Salmon (Mrs 2E0RMI) for the home-made Xmas biccies. Also, with the weather not being ideal, the tea and coffee served by David and Myra was very well received.

Seasons greetings to all CARS members, and thanks for the mince pies!
