Spark coils (9 replies)
You're darn right, that is interesting
I have been sat reading up about spark coils for the last hour, Very interesting :)
I am sure we have some hams here that know a lot about spark transmitters :) I don't know a lot about them but I am interested to learn more. :)
The wireless telegraph is not difficult to understand.
The ordinary telegraph is like a very long cat.
You pull the tail in New York, and it meows in Los Angeles.
The wireless is the same, only without the cat.

I'd love if someone/s would do a talk on this
Yes I would also enjoy that. :)

Thought that this would be interesting topic.
"The Model-T Ford “Spark” coil is also known as a Trembler Coil”.
The Model-T used four of these spark coils and were used to supply a high voltage arc for the spark plugs; one for each cylinder. In the days before CW oscillators (early 1920’s), spark transmitters were used. It was quite common for a young ham to use a Model-T spark coil as the heart of a transmitter, usually to the dismay of his father. You see, junior would swipe one of the spark coils at night to talk to his buddies across town. With a good antenna, a distance of 5 miles might be spanned! But the next day, junior would forget to put the spark coil back into Dad’s car. Dad would start his car, only to have it run on three cylinders. After the mechanic inspected the misfiring Model-T, he would ask the Dad, “Is one of your children a Ham?”. Dad wasn’t happy at that moment, but would usually buy his son/daughter a Model-T Ford spark coil of their very own."
