Essex Ham Email Discussion Group

Essex Ham has it’s own Email Discussion Group. In 2017, we switched this from Yahoo Groups to Groups.io

What is a discussion group?

If you’re not familiar with one of these, it’s an email group where you’re able to send an email to a single address, and it’s received by all of the members of that list – you can have a group discussion over email. They’re often referred to as “Reflectors”.

How do I sign up?

To keep it simple, we’re using a Groups.io group. You can sign up by sending an email or completing an online registation.

To join, send an email to essexham+subscribe@groups.io, or better still, go to groups.io/g/essexham

How do I use the group?

Use the following email address to send a message to the group: essexham@groups.io

To unsubscribe, send an email to essexham+unsubscribe@groups.io

You can optionally access an online archive of posts here: groups.io/g/essexham

Robin Hood Award – Pubs are legitimate locations! Until mains water supplies arrived in the 19th century ale was a much safer drink that water, so RH and crowd would have consumed large amounts of (weak) beer. There’s a Robin Hood Pub in Loughton and one in Clacton. Additionally, legitimate connections to RH include Friar Tuck, WIll Scarlett, Little John, Maid Marian, King John and Richard Lionhart. Good hunting. G7HZZ/M0PHX for RHA Team

    Hi Peter
I want to say a huge thanks for putting together the Foundation Course, It was fantastic, I passed my exam on Monday (16th) with a pass of 21, not my best score, I was getting 80% and 90% on the Mock tests but at least I passed, as you know I was really sad to see a few people dis your FREE course, I can’t believe there are people out there that are like that, Please keep up the great work you are doing, I have now hooked up with OARC and started my intermediate course so the learning won’t stop, Thanks again Peter, Im only in Norfolk and I can hear your repeater so when I get me Call sign I would love to have a quick chat with you on air, stay safe and 73’s for now Adam S

    Hi.
A simple process to check sources of Hf noise has led to good lower background noise on Hf and satisfactory working on 80 metres. Check the article in the latest RadCom by Derek Hart M0WEO about tracking down HF interference sources in the home. I assumed that in recent times as a person returning to the hobby that fast WiFi modems might be the problem of Hf noise now experienced by many Hams but no. I used an old Grundig Music Boy radio tuned on 5 to 7 MHz Hf am to place near home wiring and devices and found an expensive plug board with usb sockets feeding printers in the shack was making most of the noise ( a racket). The printers themselves also made some noise much amplified when printing. I then checked our home TV antenna amplifiers and found interference on 80 metres down to half a division at the bottom of the spectrum scope scale when they were unplugged. Reception after that was so good I contacted stations up to 1000 miles away for a signal check. On order today is a good quality Labgear TV pre-amp and the old ones are going in the bin. Last night 40 metre reception was even better. I have not had problems with higher bands. Job done for about twenty pounds. Bob. M0DDK.

Hello. I am Hosein from Iran. One day I happened to listen to Essex Ham internet radio and after listening to Shirin Pete and Kelly’s talk, I became very interested in amateur radio. Very few amateur radios are active in Iran. Many people have never heard the word amateur radio. I suggest that you also produce and broadcast programs about the amateur radios of the Asian continent in order to make your site global. Dear you, Hosein from Iran
