      <p>I would like to get into 6 Meters but there are a number of factors holding me back which is the lack of radio's out there that do 6 meters. </p>
      <p>Typically you got to spend large amounts of cash to get onto 6 meters with the following options of buying an old junky 50 MHz transceiver that may have faults or getting something more modern that only supports FM or buying an HF set that has 6 meters. All expensive ways. The only cheaper way would be to build one although not easy but could be quite interesting.</p>
      <p>Its not just SSB I am interested in but also FM as well. I have a 6 meter repeater near me I should be able to get into. </p>
      <p>Wouldn't it be fantastic if China could produce a cheap 50MHz transceiver like they do with 2/70 transceivers. Just a thought. </p>

    1. <p>I don't know if anybody remembers or has heard of the the Icom ICB-1050. I have a few of those on 10 meters FM those sets were favorable for converting to 10 meters "the FM portion of the 10 meter band" with repeater shift, apparently once converted can then be converted to do 6 meters although FM only but with an added CTCSS board I could access the local 6 meter repeater. I will have to find the web page again on how to get one of those on 6 meters although I have nothing to realign the RX stage but perhaps it would be something interesting to do. I'm not sure if Essex skills night is still going but could be something to bring along with me. Could be an interesting project. </p>

    2. <p>one of the options to explore activity on any band would be to get one of the RTLSDR blog USB SDR dongles, you can connect to your external antenna, just need a laptop the dongle(about £40) and some free software</p>
      <p>you can then look at activity on any frequency (with correct antenna) 500khz to about 1.6Ghz any mode before you spend hundreds on a transceiver</p>

        I came across the Quansheng TK11 8 Walkie Talkie which covers 6 meters RX/TX I may get one of these.

    3. <p>I have a Wouxun KG UV 950P in the car that does 6m or if you prefer a cheaper option, you can pick up a TYT TH-9800 for a couple of hundred quid that will operate on 6m.</p>
