Hello Hi all I'm John and I live in Derbyshire. I played around with CB radio in the early 80's. Was toying with the idea of amateur radio now that I have retired early. Looking to get on the foundation training and take it from there. Thanks for allowing me to sign up to your site! Regards John

Newbie from County Durham. Hi all, I'm Alan, a newbie from County Durham taking his first tentative steps into the world of amateur radio. I'm not licensed yet, but I've added my name to the Essex Ham list for the next available course. I have a small set up, comprising of a Wouxon KG-UG950P couple to a Moonraker SQBM1000 Tri-band and powered by a Sharman SM30. I'm only listening at the moment as per the rules and have heard a few conversations from some 80+ miles away so far and I'm enjoying ability to sit, be quiet and learn. I'm looking forward to the next steps I take across the ether. Alan.

Hello Everyone! I'm a Born-again radio enthusiast living in Falmouth Cornwall - was into CB donkeys years ago back in the AM days before legalisation then the Gov legalised it on 27Mhz FM just before Xmas. The world and their sibling bought their kids rigs for Xmas and Xmas day was just full of kids swearing at each other and arranging fights. Then life got in the way, jobs, wife, kids etc. Retired a few years ago down into Cornwall. Then just recently I watched a film called The Days After about the aftermath of a nuclear attack. There was a guy in a bunker with a CB and the interest was resparked. Bought myself a cheap Thunderpole TX handheld and, in an ideal world I would say I found a thriving CB community here in Cornwall, but no - didley squat - round here at any rate. But my radio interest was piqued so did a bit of digging on the Net about Hams (and old mate of mine was one so I knew a bit about them) and purchased a Baofeng GT-5R to listen to - again not much happening to be honest. A bit more digging and found you guys offering a free training course (good on yer) So here I am - I've got my Foundation exam on 24th so now considering how to make more of the GT-5R and then maybe some HF at a future date. I'm in an apartment 2 floors up - I have a balcony so some funky thoughts about antenna may be in order for HF. Anyway sorry to unload that lot on you - I guess most people just say hi rather than unleash their life story :) Over..

Hello all. Hi there, I'm a foundation licence holder (trained and qualified through Essex Ham) and despite holding my qualification for over a year, still haven't gotten round to setting up a base station. So I'll be loitering in here for some inspiration on how to set a base up. Thanks for having me.
