To sign up to the Foundation Online course, you need to create a free Student account with Schoology.com
Need some help getting into the online classroom for our course? Here’s some help
Step-by-Step guide on accessing the classroom:
The following video shows how to get into Schoology, step-by-step – below the video is a text guide:
Step 1: From a standard web browser (e.g. Chrome, Edge, Safari), go to app.schoology.com/register.php
Step 2: Select “Student”
Step 3: At the next screen, enter the Access Code that you were supplied with by email when the course started
Step 4: At the next screen, enter your full name, email address and date of birth. Make sure to use the same name and email address as you used when you registered with us. Create a password (and keep a safe copy!). Tick that you agree to the terms. No need to select “Receive periodic updates from Schoology”
Step 5: Once you have pressed “Register”, you will get a confirmation that you have joined the course:
Step 6: From the menu, select “Courses”, and you’ll see the current course that you’re signed up to. Click the course.
Step 7: You should then see the course main page, which should look something like this:
As new modules are released, they’ll appear in a list under “Materials”
And that’s it!
Getting an “Enter School” message?
If you’re asked for a school – this is because you are likely trying to log on as a tutor, or have created a tutor account, not a student account.
If you see the following screen, you are trying to log in as a tutor. Select “Regular login”:
If you have created a tutor account, you need to go through the steps above and select “Student”.
Getting an “Email Address Not Valid” message?
This is most commonly for two reasons:
- Have you taken a Schoology course before? If you already have an account, just log on here: Schoology Login – you can’t create two accounts with the same email address
- You may be trying to create a Parent account, not a student account. Go to Schoology Sign Up and select “Student”
Email address still not recognised?
- Make sure you have typed the email address correctly – no spaces or hidden characters in the email field
- We’ve heard of problems with people creating accounts on some Android phones – if it doesn’t work on the app, use a standard web browser, such as Chrome, Edge or Safari
- Could it be a browser issue, like a cache or auto-complete? Try with a different browser or your mobile phone browser
Email Address Already Registered?
If you have taken our course before, there is no need to re-register with Schoology – you can simply use your existing Schoology account. If you try to register, you will get this error:
Here’s how to join a course if you already have an account:
- Go to app.schoology.com/courses
- At the next screen, enter your email address and your Schoology password (you would have created a password when you originally created your account). If you have forgotten your password, press “Forgot your password” to get a new one sent to you)
- Once you are logged in, from the menu, select “Courses” and then click “Join a course”

- Enter the access code for the new course that we supplied to you by email
Error message: Access Code Not Recognised?
Make sure you have followed the instructions above carefully, and that you are entering the course access code correctly (with no spaces). It makes sense to copy and paste it, to prevent transcription errors
Forgotten your password?
If you have already created your Schoology account, you can log in here: app.schoology.com/login
If you have forgotten your password, select “Forgot your password”, and you’ll be sent an email helping you to set a new password

If you don’t get the email reminder, check the following:
- Are you entering the correct email address that you registered with?
- Have you checked your email spam folder?
If you still can’t get in, you have two options – contact Schoology support, or create a new Schoology account
Other Problems?
Still having problems? You’re welcome to contact us – please quote the exact error message, the type and version of browser you’re using, and if possible, send us a screenshot.
The schoology app not recognizing my email address
Have you followed the instructions and registered with Schoology? If you’re still having problems, can you let us know the exact error message, and perhaps mail us a screenshot?
It is not recognizing my email address here
Just checking, by “here”, do you mean on the Essex Ham / HamTrain site, or on Schoology? They are different sites.
If you mean Schoology (for the online classroom), you need to go to http://www.schoology.com/register.php, and select “Student”. Make sure you’re entering the email address correctly (with no spaces). Note that Schoology won’t let you register using an email address that’s already linked to a Schoology account – could you already have an account? If you’re still having a problem, send us a screenshot showing the exact error message.
Hello. Silly me presed tutor instead of student and now I can’t go back to correct it. Please help. I have an access code. The name is Ian. Thanks
Hi Ian,
Log off and start again as a student, you should be ok. If not, select ‘Courses’ from the menu, then press ‘Join’ and use the above code
I know how to correct it now but it won’t accept my email address as it thinks it’s already being used
You can login as a tutor, and add yourself as a student (see above). If not, log in and close your account, then create a new one
I’ll get someone who knows about all this stuff to do it for me tomorrow. Thanks for your time pete
I’m not very good at all this Pete. I’m just an old_ish welder
Hi the course logged me out and not it says I have to be accepted to rejoin.
This would indicate that you’re: a) using a different email address to the one you originally applied with, or b) you are using someone else’s registration code. Best to contact the course admininstrator.
Oh ok thanks! Sorry.
Hi I have registered with my other email address but schoolology said the verification link was invalid.
I suspect your details don’t match the details you provided when you registered. Have you contacted the course admininstrator to check?
Just checked. There is no-one on the list matching your name or email address. You need to complete the registration form on our site to register for a course in your own name.
Yes it is working now thanks.
I have registered and have the message “You have successfully requested to join the course. You will not be fully enrolled until your request is accepted.”
I use several email addresses to keep my email tidy and I may have used radiot******n.co.uk or garyt******n.co.uk
Your request has now been accepted – if you don;t use the right email address, it’s a manual process. Try now.
Hi Pete, I keep getting ‘incorrect access code’, I have put it in manually and copy/paste but it just won’t happen! Please help.
Toni.
Drop us an email with the access code and we’ll check it for you and issue a new one if necessary.
It’s not signing in that daunts m .It’s the lay and procedure inside the course .
There’s columns on both side which is overwhelming with so much information all around not knowing what is what .It’s the schoology lay out of lessons assignments and bits and pieces I find it too complex to understand .I feel overwhelmed it’s going to take a week to understand getting around n
Before I start course,
. I think I should withdraw as the schoology approach is not user friendly
Hi Charles,
Here is a screenshot – https://www.essexham.co.uk/train/wp-content/uploads/course-module1.jpg
Hopefully you can see “Material” on the left, which is where the material is.
The first module is called “Module 1” – There is an introduction, a video to watch, 3 pages to read, and a short quiz.
I’m happy to explain any of the items to you, but if you’re struggling with these items, not a problem – we can remove you from the course.
Over 2,500 have taken the course so far this year, but Internet learning is not for everyone, and if having course information delivered like this is too tricky for you, no problem – contact your local club who may be able to help with classroom or one-to-one tuition, or you can study from the RSGB course book.
Access code invalid please help
That normally means you’re using an old expired code, or you’ve typed it in incorrectly. Drop us an email with your details if you’d like us to take a look for you.
Pete, trying to sign up but rejecting email as saying already exists, same one which i used last time before having to go in hospital
Can you send my prev sign in details, reading help thing , says can use this new code
Thanks
Doug .
Just sign in with your email address and the password tyou used before. If you’ve forgotten the password, use “forgot password” to set up a new one.
Pete. Still unable to get back into Schoology! I was in all OK and completed (and submitted tests for) Modules 1 & 2 – but o avoid having to go back to find the original joining details every time I tried to set up a short cut icon or favourite. That’s when it went to worms! I am unable to log back in. I have gone through all your problems above but it still won’t let me in. When I try to log in it autoinserts “Michael” and a password of asterisks. When I add my full name and add my password it jumps to the School requirement – with no “regular log in” shown!
Having been in and completed two modules normally I assume I have a Schoology account so, as per the problems response above I am unable to re-register.
Please advise so I can complete Module 3 when available.
Hi Michael,
If you’re being asked for a school, that means you’re attempting to log on as a tutor, not a student. From what you’ve said, you are using an automatic login tool of some kind – you made mention of your browser auto-completing login details and jumping to a specific page. These auto-login tools can be a nightmare – if you log in incorrectly once, they will remember this and try to do it automatically for you. Best advice is to temporarily disable this auto-login software, delete the stored details for our site and/or use another web browser to log in.
