This video is part of our\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexham.co.uk\/train\/foundation-online\">Getting Started: Foundation Online course<\/a><\/strong> series.<\/p>\n<h3>Foundation Exam Video<\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;ve created the following video to give you a feel for what to expect when taking the Foundation exam:<\/p>\n<table class=\"mid\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rCI8YgiIaU4\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>The Foundation Exam<\/h3>\n<p>To get your amateur radio licence and callsign, you&#8217;ll need to take a multiple-choice exam, either online (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexham.co.uk\/train\/online-exams\"><strong>online exams<\/strong><\/a>) or at a local amateur radio club.<\/p>\n<h4>The Exam<\/h4>\n<p>This is a 26-question multiple-choice test, and you\u2019ll need to study for it. You can do this with the help of a free online course such as our <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexham.co.uk\/train\/foundation-online\">Ham Train course<\/a><\/strong>, at a training class run by a local ham radio club, or you can self-study from the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexham.co.uk\/train\/foundation-licence-manual\/\">Foundation Licence Manual<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ID Check:<\/strong> Before you can sit the exam, you\u2019ll need to prove your identity to the invigilator. The best option is to bring a current passport, a photo id driving licence, or another legal document showing your photo, name and signature. If you can\u2019t provide those, you\u2019ll need to bring two current legal documents showing your name and signature \u2013 this can include a credit card. If in doubt, check with the exam centre before turning up to the exam.<\/p>\n<h4>The Exam<\/h4>\n<p>In the exam, you\u2019ll be presented with the exam paper, the optical marking sheet and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essexham.co.uk\/train\/foundation-exam-booklet\/\">Reference Data booklet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Before the exam starts, the invigilator will read out a set of rules and explain the process.<\/p>\n<p>Once the exam starts, you\u2019ll have 60 minutes to answer the 26 questions, which is usually plenty of time.
