Thurrock Acorns August 2014 Meeting

Tuesday the 19th of August saw the monthly get-together of the Thurrock Acorns Amateur Radio Club (TAARC) at their club base in Grays.

Recent club meetings have centered around the traditional club night format of a guest speaker talking on a radio-related subject – After discussion on the club’s Facebook group, this month’s meeting was more of a social get-together, allowing members to catch up and chat about the club’s recent events and what’s around the corner. The next large event for the club is JOTA in October, followed by the first event of 2015, World Thinking Day. TAARC is also about to hold its first Intermediate course, with preparations well in hand.

Turnout of the evening was excellent, and the hot food went down a treat, especially the spicy samosas!

The club’s satellite guru brought along his portable satellite setup, with his rather impressive circular polarised handheld yagi.

Thanks to the TAARC team for laying on the food and drink for the evening – great to catch up with everyone and discuss what everyone’s up to in the world of amateur radio.

Next month sees the return of Carl G3PEM, this time discussing construction techniques and projects. After that, a talk on meteorological balloons is on the cards.
