RadCom February 2015 – Essex Amateurs

RSGB LogoThe February 2015 issue of the RSGB’s magazine RadCom is out, with many receiving their copy today. As always, recent Amateur Radio activity in Essex has got a mention, notably in the “Around Your Region” section, where Region 12 continues to be a busy part of the country.

The first news story at the front of the magazine is an announcement about the 2015 Band Plans, written by Murray G6JYB, who many will know from the Chelmsford Amateur Radio Society Training Team – Note the inclusion of 146-147MHz, and the deletion of old RTTY and Fax channels, on the new 2m band plan. Make sure you’re working from a current version of the band plan, which you can find online: RSGB Band Plan

Around Your Region:

Essex RAYNET: A busy year for Essex RAYNET wrapped up with the team supporting the Santa Fun Run in Chelmsford, including the group helping to shift a stuck ambulance.

Waters & Stanton Open Day in December was mentioned, including Essex Ham’s photo of Steve G4ZUL and a festive Peter G0DZB – Our video, referred to in the article, can be found here: W&S Xmas Report

Thames Amateur Radio Group‘s upcoming dates for Foundation and Intermediate courses were featured, together with a photo of their recent successful candidates (repeated from last month’s issue). Also included is a picture of Andy G1GKN training a candidate – as well as being one of TARG’s trainers, Andy is on the Essex Repeater Group committee and was one of the prizewinners in the 2014 CARS Constructors Competition.

Also getting a mention are two Essex clubs qualifying for “long service”:

  • The Loughton & Epping Forest ARS (LEFARS) has achieved 52  years of unbroken RSGB membership
  • The Harlow and District ARS has hit 51 years of unbroken RSGB membership

If you want to read the articles in full, without having to wait for your copy of RadCom to pop through your letterbox, take a look in the Essex Ham Members section for a PDF version of the ‘Around Your Region’ section.

Well done to all of the clubs in Essex for their hard work at field events, training courses and club nights around the county – great that amateurs in Essex are keeping busy and getting noticed.
