In tonight’s net, here’s what was discussed:

  • Bletchley Park and the Milton Keynes Rally
  • Essex RAYNET helping out at the Clacton Airshow
  • Excellent field day at the Kelvedon Bunker – Well done to LEFARS and the SNB team (and thanks for the loan of the Cushcraft, the 7610, and 20m!)
  • Well don to Dorothy for a busy TARG net on Friday
  • Sound-gangers – people who have sound-a-likes
  • New licence – discussion of the article posted to Southgate – Could an entry-level licence boost activity
  • Background noise (kids & kettles)… not a problem, as radio is a part of our lives
  • Where do the M6s vanish to?
  • Club Surveys – a great way of finding out what members want from their clubs
  • Getting more activity – and having a chin wag
  • LORAN, short for long range navigation
  • “If you don’t enjoy it, stop doing it”
  • An update on David M1ECC’s plans for his new club. Details coming soon
  • Comment of the night goes to Brian “The hobby is personal to you”, and is often best when it’s you vs. RF
  • Quote from Brian G1KPS. Clubs are 95% social, 5% radio
  • Brian – if you’re reading – Can’t find the letter from G4DEZ – pointer appreciated

The net wrapped just after 11:00pm local time.

The theme for tonight was quite heavy – but we all get different things from our diverse hobby, so live-and-let live, and if you don’t like a mode, club, activity, radio, net, conversation, or whatever – there’s plenty of other stuff to do.

Thanks to everyone who took part on this week’s busy net on and off air.

A quick reminder that participants shouldn’t be making on-air references to any QRM, not addressing anyone who doesn’t hold an amateur radio licence. Feel free to log it using the Essex Ham QRM log though. Also, in the interests of being fair to all participants, please try to keep overs to under 2 minutes, and just one over per round (it’s the thing people complain about most often!)
