Hi,
To just listen you will just need the dongle a PC and some means of connectiong it up to an antenna. If you already have a co-linear for 2M you could just buy an adaptor off bay to connect to PL259. That may or maynot work well. My Diamond X50 works fine on airband.
Have a look at retailers like cosycave who sell all the adaptors with the dongle. If you buy one like the one in the picture here you are going to need an MCX to SMA then SMA to BNC or PL259.
The main problem people have is getting the drivers to work on windows and finding software that they "can get on with". You will need to install the ZADIG driver correctly on windows for it to work. No drivers are needed for Linux but software is more limited. For linux there is GQRX and for windows most popular seem to be SDR# and HDSDR.You can even run "SDRtouch" on an adroid phone or tablet.
For help http://www.rtl-sdr.com is a huge resource or you can ask back here. Just bear in mind that it may take a little patience to setup. I have spent an hour scratching my head before only to find that I had the wrong output set in my windows sounds settings. Once you get it going though you will love it. Gook Luck Paul M0XMT
Hi Paul and thank you for your reply, i also have a X50 Antenna sited above the apex of my house and it works very well on 2/70 and also with my Base Radio Scanner!.
I'm about to order from HAM GOODIES the Blue Dongle but unsure what cable i need that must terminate with a PL259 could you help me with this please ?.

Hi George,
Looking on Ham Goodies site it looks like it comes supplied with a connector so you just need to chose the SO239 option for PL259.

For letting me join your Group though I'm very far from Essex, I'm in Carlisle the Northern edge of the Lake District about 9 miles from the Scottish border there is very little "chat" up here on 2 or 70 however my main interest is Airband and found the information on the USB Software Defined Radio Dongle must interesting, I only want to listen and not pass on data and couldn't work out from the article just what I need to do this, can someone please help me here perhaps with a list of what I need. Forgive me if I should have posted somewhere else. Regards M3BSF
