Hi George thanks for the reply , Yes the problems I have are my XP no longer boots up and I think I need to re install the raid drivers , My Lap top I need to reinstall a new hard 1Tb HD to replace the old 250 Gb Drive then re install windows as for my Windows 10 desk top it works but when you first Boot it up I get a strange Error message very odd ?

If other members are reading this I have a KR 400 with controler looking for a good home thats free . It is working but needs a strip down and cleaned . I changed it out a few years ago but like I said its Free !

Hi Brian
RE: Win XP machine. No Boot; First question I must ask? Do you get the POST (Power On Self test beep? 2 - Are you using the XP with multiple drives for aas RAID unit?
Re: LapTop _ What make ? Have you checked that it will support a 1Tb HD and what rev. of Windows do you intend to install?
Re: Win 10 DT. Can you describe the err. msg?
Sadly these questions have to asked to diagnose what is possible.

Hi George the problem with the XP machine is I need to install from floppy the raid drivers . It goes this way from time to time but for some reason the raid drivers are not loading ? As far as the windows 7 lap top goes its just a straight forward remove the old 250 Gb drive and re install the 1 Tb drive I have all the original Dell Drivers so its just a straight forward re-install windows , I am not installing the data from the old C drive to new as the drive has some very bad malware installed on it . So the old drive will not be reused . current drives installed at the moment are drive C 250 GB , Drive E 1TB and Drive F 75 GB as for model of laptop its a 17 Inch Alienware . I could write a few thousands words regarding the problems with the computers and the error messages but but most of the problems have been caused by malware . To give you some idea I am being used by the third party to send spam , I can see this because I ran TCPView and someone is using me as a Node I could take a screen shot and you can see . When this happens I turn off the internet . Soon after wards when I go back online again all strange things happen to the lap top , Antvirus is ESET Nod32 . Very soon I will be coming back on the air again after being off for over 22 years so can have a chat on 2m.
Thanks again .

I am find this somewhat confusing, Brian.

I take it the LapTop is a 17" Alienware or is it? (model ?)

If the machine you are running with Win XP - has a raid external unit? or SATA drive?.
Have you considered using a USB memeory stick? I am assuming the machine has USB port.
See http://www.prime-expert.com/articles/b02/installing-windows-xp-with-f6-ahci-raid-drivers-from-usb-only.php
https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19127-01/ultra27.ws/820-6774/gioyc/index.html

If The 250 Gb HD has the form of problems you are suggesting. I personally would use an extenal drive unit to mount the drive in an external and erase completetly.
Ideally if you have some who has a Mac. The standard disk utility allows you to repartion the drive and then zero out all tracks.

I note that the Win 7 machine that has 3 Hard disks in it? (Is that correct? Or is it a laptop?)

It might be better to deal with one problem at a time.

Hi George
Thanks for the Feed back , As far as the XP machine goes i just want to get the data of the hard drives as I have no intention of using it . So I have given that task to a local IT guy to sort out .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 17 inch Alienware Lap top is more straight forward just remove the old 250 Gb drive and then reinstall the new 1Tb drive . Then install the Dell CD with all the drivers and windows . I will not be copying over any of the data on the drive since it contains to much Mal Ware . I wont go into details but the best way to deal with this drive is to reformat and use for some other project . Yes this has 3 Hd fitted Drive C : 250 Gb , Drive 1 Tb and drive F: 75 gb , This has no raid fitted

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dell Alienware Aurora R4 desk top Very slow boot up " Takes about 10 minutes " I went to the Dell web site and down loaded all the new updates included new BIOS however when I installed the new BIOS the computer would not boot so removed the battery and re flashed with a USB memory stick , That now reboots so its just back down to slow boot so may have to reinstall windows .

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So the computers maintenance is a bit slow but may get the HF gate way up and running before Christmas but still got the tower and changing all the lifting wires , I changed over the tilt over wire last year other wise there has been no maintenance on the system for over 22 years .

Hi Brian
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Have been away for the last two weeks.
OK on the XP probably the best route if you have some who look at precisely what is happening. The LT - sounds as though you have got it wrapped up. The Dell "slow boot up" two possibilities. Check how quickly it enters HW set up. Try (if not already) "Safe Boot" in to windows. (This should be lot quicker.)

Hi George

Thanks for the feed back , Well the old XP machine looks like its a Non runner as even the IT man could not even get it running or get the data off the machine due to the raid system on the hard drives . But checking on one of my portable hard drives I did back up the data on there so not all is lost .

As for the DELL ALIENWARE AURORA R4 in the end I did do a total reinstall on Windows 7 and updated the BIOS but it still seems slow to me .

So we are getting there its just very slow as for the tower with a bit of luck I will start on that in the next few weeks but already I have found that Tonna are no longer made and I need replacement elements with nylon stand offs for my 23 cm beams .But so much has changed in 22 years .
