Hi Everyone,

I helped out at the Marconi Day special event callsign commemoration on Saturday and had a terrific time down at The Hut on the CARS station on 40m. We worked lots of stations up and down the country and Ireland and the near continent.

There is another commemorative day using the special event callsign next Saturday down at the Mill and John, G8DET has asked me to invite everyone on the Intermediate training course at Danbury, if they would like, to
visit the station for next weeks event. Help is needed for
electronic logging, listening and operating.

I had an absolutely brilliant day and can highly recommend going, senior CARS members running the event are very, very interesting, and are goldmines full of useful info and really would like us newbies to get involved with it! I'd be there again like a shot but I'll be on my way to Prague next Saturday.

Either let me know if you're going or better still email John direct so that he can make a rota for the day!

73,

Lucy
M6ECG

To cut the full wave loop antenna wire length to resonance we use the formula: Length (in feet) = 1005 divided by frequency (in MHz). Make it a little longer and trim off as you check the SWR.

Try to make loop Resonant on one of the Ham bands 40mtrs would be great if you have the room. for other bands your atu will tune up the loop. dont expect great results say if you have a smaller size loop res on 15/10 m and tune it up on 40/80mtrs. long wavelengh/low frequency = long antenna wire.

why not give it a try ??

73s neil

Example 1005 Divided by (Frequency) 14.175 mhz =

70 ft. 10.8 inches (21.6 mtrs.)

Example 1005 Divided by (Frequency) 7.100 mhz =

141 ft. 6.6 inches (43.1 mtrs.)

Example 1005 Divided by (Frequency) 28.175 mhz =

35 ft. 8 inches (10.9 mtrs.)

Hi all just a quick update I've passed the foundation course and hope to obtain a callsign shortly. Looking forward to speaking to you all soon on the next Monday night net. I was listening in on Mondays net 18th feb and noticed that from 2045 hrs reception was every good but after 21.45 hrs reception reduced and I was wondering if the antenna was covered in a thin layer of frost.

Milton Keynes Amateur Radio Society had a QSO party on Sunday. They are being evicted from their QTH of 20 years at Bletchley Park, home of the wartime code-breakers.

I managed to work the station (GB2 BP) on 40m before it shut for the last time (at their current location). Fortunately the operator made space for QRP stations. I was eventually copied 5/5 and made it into their log.

Good luck to MKARS at their new QTH.

Rob.
Hi

I borrowed a Miracle Antenna (http://miracleantenna.com/) from G1FOA (I think it was Peter...) and decided to try it out today.

The Yaseu's internal batteries were charged up and I headed out on my bicycle with an ultra-basic HF setup. I found a picnic table in a quiet part of Maldon's Promenade Park and was setup in about one minute!! Here is a photo of my portable station: http://imgur.com/ga5J5

Within fifteen minutes I had worked three stations on 20m. Slovenia, Italy and Bosnia & Herzegovina. I spent the next 15 minutes trying to work a Moscow station, without luck. By then, my hands were frozen to the mic so I headed home.

Although I didn't have much time with the Miracle Antenna, I worked stations almost 1000 miles away on 10w. I'm impressed with this little antenna. It really works!

73
Rob

Nice little contest, I thought. My first experience of a PSK63 contest. Managed about 50 contacts, but as Charlie says, very fast QSOs, and you have to pay attention. Good fun though!

Pete,

Yes, very rewarding, I was really impressed!

On a slightly different topic I was in W&S in Hockley earlier today (for the first time) in a professional capacity but I have to confess I spent more time dribbling over Ham gear than discussing the equipment we are considering for work purposes . Aladin's cave was the phrase that sprung to mind, just as well I left the plastic at home!
